Assistant Vice President, Expense Management, Sun Life Financial
Sally Murdock
Board Member since 2019
Finance Committee
Sally was born and raised in Waterloo. Now, as a mother of two young boys, she is committed to giving back to a community that has provided her with so many opportunities. In volunteering on the Emmanuel at Brighton Board of Directors, Sally has found the perfect chance to share her skills while contributing to an organization in which she and her family are deeply invested. Emmanuel’s caring, warm and child-centric environment has provided her family with many beautiful opportunities for growth and development. Her oldest son Tommy’s attendance in the Forest and Nature School was their family’s initial connection to the child care centre. He attended the program for two years, fostering lasting friendships and deepening his connection to nature. Harry, Sally’s second son, is now an enthusiastic member of the Maygwayyawk room.
In her professional life, Sally is a member of the finance community at Sun Life Financial in Waterloo. She leads a team of accountants and other professionals supporting Sun Life’s retail wealth and insurance businesses. Sally is a Chartered Financial Analyst with experience in investments and actuarial science as well as finance. She believes that her training and professional experience will help support the mandate of the Board’s Finance Committee and will allow her to bring a unique perspective to the Board. Personally, she wants to use this opportunity to deepen her understanding of non-profit governance.
Sally is a lover of music and the arts and has recently started attending Outside Voices, a local community choir. In this new pursuit, Sally has found an opportunity to build personal connections through music and exercise her artistic passion in a Circle of Song. It is also provides her a unique opportunity to do something completely different from her “day job” and from her “mom job”, ensuring 90 minutes a week just for her!
As a life-long athlete, Sally knows and respects the deep connection between mental and physical wellbeing. She is an avid swimming, attending a masters swimming program three mornings a week. She also loves exercising in the outdoors by hiking, biking and swimming and would love to learn how to cross-country ski…it’s on the bucket list.
Sally is a thoughtful and caring individual with a big laugh. She is thrilled to be part of the Emmanuel at Brighton Board of Directors and is excited to hear from the members of its broader community so we can all work to make this special place even more wonderful.
